Jana Häusl
Jana, tell us about your personal highlight from last season.
Last season I was able to win my second Junior World Championship title. The moment was indescribable. I am now the only athlete ever to have achieved this twice in the Ski Female category.
Were there also difficult situations this winter?
Immediately after the Junior World Championships, the next competition was already coming up. My thoughts were still so focused on the previous event that I found it difficult to concentrate on the new one. I was not happy with my skiing there either. Over time, however, I was able to rebuild my focus and was ready for the competitions that followed.
What goal have you set yourself for the coming season?
Next season I will be able to compete on the Challenger Tour. It is only one level below the World Tour, and the top two women qualify for the World Tour. Achieving that is definitely my biggest goal for next season.
Who supported you particularly strongly last season?
My dad is my coach and we are a great team, and my mum is my biggest supporter. Nothing would work without my parents. My teammates and I also push each other hard in training, which helps my development a lot.
About the Ski-Club and its history
How long have you been part of Ski-Club Arlberg?
I have been with the Ski-Club since I was very little. I was part of the Alpine Team and the Freeride Team, so I really had plenty of opportunities to try things out. :)
The Ski-Club is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. What do you think about that?
I think it is admirable that the Ski-Club has existed for so long. It is not something to take for granted that people have invested in the development of skiing for such a long period of time.
Do you remember a special anecdote or story from your time with the Ski-Club?
I will always remember the “Hey Ötzi” game my coach Andi used to play. It took me years to understand it!
If you imagine the Ski-Club another 25 years from now, what do you hope for the future of the club and for the next generation of athletes?
I hope the training community remains as strong as it is and that all athletes continue to enjoy their sport. Of course, I also hope the freeride section keeps growing - we are an Olympic sport now. :) It would be great if lots of kids discovered their passion there!
